Our Packaging Policy
Here at Shiny Happy Eco, we’re conscious that we need to minimise our impact on the environment as we go about our business of selling and posting our lovely ware all across the country. Here’s a little bit about how we’re trying to do that with our packaging policy…
Never knowingly over packaged
As a rule, we never knowingly over package anything however, we do change the way we package our products based on the latest feedback from our customers. Feel free to tell us if you feel that we can improve the packaging of our products from an environmental point of view. We’re always looking to improve.
Re-used packaging from suppliers
Occasionally we may use packaging that comes from our suppliers as we source our stock. We feel it’s better to re-use packaging if possible rather than discard it prematurely. Therefore, you may occasionally receive your product in a previously used box which may appear to be a little over-sized or have previous labels on it. Rest assured, the product inside will still be lovingly packaged!
Cardboard boxes
Where we use cardboard boxes to post our items, we use FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) accredited materials. This means that you can be sure that the material going into making the cardboard is all responsibly managed. You can learn more about FSC here.
Tissue paper – Acid and Chlorine free
Many of our lovely environmentally friendly gifts are delicate, especially those that are hand painted. We generally tend to wrap these items in acid and chlorine free tissue paper to help protect them in their box as we post to them. You can re-use our tissue paper wrapping or pop it into your recycling.
EcoFlo / Void fill
We use EcoFlo to help protect your products in their box when we post them out to you. EcoFlo may look like polystyrene at first glance however, we assure you we don’t use polystyrene! EcoFlo is starch based, 100% biodegradable and 100% compostible, leaving no hazardous material.
The manufacturing process for EcoFlow is also less energy intensive than making polystyrene as it’s a single stage process rather than multiple stage.
Our EcoFlow protective packaging dissolves in water which also means if any does happen to get blown in the wind, it will dissolve harmlessly rather than cause a litter problem.
Pop EcoFlow on your compost heap and ‘job’s a goodun’ as they say around these parts!
Paper
Occasionally we may use craft paper as void fill. This is always recycled from packaging we receive from our suppliers as we stock products. You can pop this into your recycling as normal.
Paper Kraft tape
At Shiny Happy Eco we avoid plastic based tape and instead use paper Kraft tape. As the name suggests, it’s paper based and can be popped into your normal recycling.
Labels
Where we use labels, we source recycled material and environmentally friendly inks.
Plastic
Clearly plastic is a no-no when it comes to the environment. At Shiny Happy Eco we try and avoid plastic at all costs. We’ve made big strides in this area in the time we’ve been trading and we’re proud of where we’ve got to in such a short space of time. Currently only a very small amount of our products contain a small amount of plastic in their packaging as they arrive to us. We’re working hard with our suppliers to eradicate plastic entirely from the packaging of the products we source.
